Tree of Life WIP by KumikoEharu Tree of Life WIP by KumikoEharu
What's this? A painting from moi?!

It's not done, still got some stuff to do. But it's so close I can taste it!!

This is such a satisfying piece, because its a painting that's working and came mostly out of my head.

Inspired by many Tree of Life beliefs such as the kabalah and Celtic Tree of Life.

Trees are the closest thing in nature to ourselves... They are born from a seed, carried in a womb (earth), and grow over time.

The druids had very deep respect for trees.

And, now, so do I ^_^.

I'll put a complete version up, soon I hope.

Info: The bottom is supposed to represent outer space/night. Those are nebulas around the planet. The top is supposed to represent a rising sun from clouds, morning.

It's done with acrylic paint. And the stars were done with a toothbrush ^_^. Quite possibly the most fun out of the entire painting.

Acrylics is probably the most versatile of paints. It dries quickly (unlike oils), if you put enough water with it you can use it like water color, and they're pretty cheap if you get the Basic brand. They can be used like oils, with out the wait, and dry brushing and washing are a breeze. Blending with it is great with practice...

Its the only paint I use.

And thank you for the compliment ^_^.

o...m...g....

this is stellar (pun intended) !!!

how big is this? Man, I could so use your help with the nebulas...I'm doing a painting for my b/f of the horsehead nebula and then I'm added the starship enterprise (hehehe, we're trekies). But it has me totally stumped, it's turning out to be harder than I expected. I believe it'll turn out okay tho....

anyways, I love this. Great job!

Lol, thanks , yeah my favorite part is the stars ^_~. I should try and tackle an interpretation of Stardust, ne?

I think its 18 x 24, off the top of my head. Not too big. Juuuust right.

Nebulas are pretty similar to clouds... And I did the top before I did the nebulas, so I pretty much had a rough idea... Um... it started as more water then pigment... to get a rough idea of how I wanted it to be... I didn't follow a picture. And then I got bolder with the color such as the blue as a base and then dry brushing in white, gold, pinks, purples as I went along. Since you're following a picture of the nebula it might be more hard since you'll have to be a bit more precise, but I suspect the theory would apply the same! Pretty much more dry brushing then anything though. And if you add stars, get a tooth brush! ITS SO FUN.

If this painting is any indication, you have very good skills with painting. The detail and blending is very well done and I love the concept, being familiar with some of the tree of life myths myself.

Native Americans also hold trees in high regard as a connection to the heavens. Some hang their dead or rather, representations of the dead from the branches in an attempt to give them a leg up into the afterlife.

Thats really interesting about the Native Americans. I didn't know that. I can add that to my collection of Tree of Life knowledge.

And thank you for the compliment ^_^. This is only the second painting I've ever done.

Well, I need to fix the light through the base of the trunk, and develop the roots and the planet more then they look here. After that it should be done ^_^. Thanks for the compliment!
